Configuring protocols with the Configuration Manager
  1. Click the Start button and in the left-hand pane click All Programs, Microsoft SQL Server 2012, Configuration Tools and then click SQL Server Configuration Manager.
  2. In the left-hand pane, open SQL Server Network Configuration and then click Protocols for MSSQL2012 and then in the right-hand pane double click TCP/IP.
  3. On the Protocol tab, point to Enabled and then click Yes to enable the TCP/IP protocol.
  4. On the IP Addresses tab point to Enabled and then click Yes to enable the TCP/IP protocol IPv4. The result should be as shown below.

    In some environments, the default static port cannot be used. If Dynamic ports are used, type 0 in the TCP Dynamic Ports field. Then click OK.

    If another port is used, change the TCP Port field from 1433 to the required port number. Then click OK.

  5. Restart the SQL server service.
