Database Aliases

To allow the Isah application on the client machine access to data on your MS SQL server, you need to create database aliases on the client. These databases aliases specify the attributes and parameters allowing you to connect to the databases, or administrations, on your MS SQL server. You can use the System Admin utility to set up, configure and maintain your client's database aliases.

Specifies the locale setting of the client that defines the client's character set. This information is used for various purposes, for instance to determine the sort order. The default setting is determined by the client's regional settings.

Specifies the maximum size of long binary or long character data that can be written by the client to a blob field in the database.

Specifies the maximum number of records that can be retrieved in a single action.

Specifies the physical name of the database as recorded on the specified MS SQL Server. To verify the name, click the lookup button () at the end of this field to open the Select Database window. Use this window to log on to your MS SQL server. In the Databasename field you will find a list of databases on this server.

Specifies the MS SQL server containing the database to which you want to connect.

Specifies which SQL Server Native Client version will be used. Choose between the following options:

Automatically detect (default): Isah software using this alias will use the latest (highest) version of the SQL Server Native Client that has been installed.
2012/2014/2016: Isah software using this alias will use SQL Server Native Client 2012. Use this setting if the Isah database is an SQL Server 2012, 2014 or 2016 database and more than one SQL Server Native Client version has been installed.

Specifies the size of the TDS packets that are exchanged between the MS SQL clients and servers. The TDS packets are the means by which commands and data are communicated.

Specifies the default user name with which the application will try to connect to the database concerned. This user name will be overruled by the user name last entered in the Isah login screen.

Set SQL Tracing to 'Yes' if you want to see SQL traffic between client and server for debugging purposes. Depending on the value in the Trace File field either IsahMonitor or a file is used for logging SQL traffic. If SQL tracing is set to 'No', no data will be displayed or logged.

When SQL Tracing is set to 'Yes' you can either choose to use Isah Monitor or a file for logging SQL traffic:

Leave the Trace file field empty if you want to use Isah Monitor.
Enter the name and location of the log file in the Trace file field if you want to log the SQL trace data in a file.

Warning: The log file can grow large and affect disk space and performance. You should only enable SQL tracing when required.
