Adding parts to an engineering BOM

From now on, you can choose to build an engineering structure using both engineering items and parts. Because a finished product often consists of a combination of standard and order-specific components, this new functionality enables you to use engineering items for order-specific components and parts for standard materials in the engineering BOM. This means you do not have to create an engineering item for each part used in an engineering BOM, which makes managing BOMs considerably easier.

Because parts can now be added to the BOM directly, it is no longer possible for engineering items to be synchronized with parts (Synchronize engineering/part). You now have the option of creating a production structure based on either parts, or engineering items and parts.

The layout of the Engineering BOM form has been changed to accommodate the part data.

Also the Production calculation for parts linked to engineering BOM form has been modified to allow you to add parts to the engineering BOM.

The following forms and functionalities have been deprecated because of the option to add parts to the engineering BOM:

• The Create engineering item process
• The ability to create parts during synchronization if an engineering item in the engineering BOM has no part linked to it.
• The Part coding setting on the Engineering form, which was used to link an engineering item to an existing part with the same code during synchronization.
• The Engineering item revision - parts form
• The Engineering item part form
• The Engineering BOM - part calculation form
• The Part calculation - engineering BOM form
