Document management allows you to link documents, such as drawings and offers, to customers, suppliers, sales orders, production files, etcetera, to ensure they are available at the required locations. Documents might be shop drawings, letters, service contracts, spreadsheets, etcetera. Documents can be grouped by document type.
A document type indicates the file type of a document. If, for example, you retrieve the documents you have added for a customer, the document type immediately tells you what types of documents they are. Examples of document types are Word documents, Excel documents, HTML documents, and AutoCAD drawings.
If you are using Communication of external documents, you can use a document type to indicate that documents should always be added as attachments to one or more reports. Use the Communication tab for this.
