Use the Hour codes form to define the types of work that can be performed. You can then use these hour codes for time registration purposes to indicate the type of hours spent, for example 'Progress meeting', 'Cycle time' or 'Setup/adjustment time'. When defining hour codes, you should also specify how the hours should be posted, for example as 'Setup/adjustment costs', 'Machine cycle costs', 'Cycle labor costs', or to a cost center. In the hour code details, you can also specify alternative labor and machine rates to be used as actual costing rates.
There are four types of hour codes:
Hour codes can be organized into hour groups.
Presence
Use presence hours to record the time a person was present. This information is important if you want to track the time your employees are present as well as the time accounted for. To register presence hours, you could, for example, define the hour code 'PR' ('Present'). Presence hours are informational only, and no costs are posted for these hours.
Time spent - direct
Use the hour type 'Time spent' to track an employee's activities while he or she was present. Most hour codes will be used to account for the time spent. 'Time spent - direct' relates to hours directly spent on an offer or order. Direct hours may be 'Setup /adjustment time' and 'Cycle time'.
Hours of the type 'Time spent - direct' can be posted as 'Setup costs', 'Adjustment costs', 'Cycle labor costs', etcetera.
Time spent - indirect
Use the hour type 'Time spent' to track an employee's activities while he or she was present. Most hour codes will be used to account for the time spent. 'Time spent - indirect' relates to indirect hours – hours not specifically spent on an offer or order. Examples of indirect hours are 'Progress meeting' and 'Cleaning up'.
Hours with an 'Indirect' hour code can be posted to a cost center, as they cannot be associated with work carried out for a particular order.
Absence reason
Use this hour type to indicate the reason for an employee's absence. Activities explaining absence could be 'Doctor's appointment', 'Illness' and 'Holiday'. Registration of absence reasons is informational only, and no costs are posted for these hour code types.
