Cancel engineering item revision

Run the Cancel engineering item revision process to undo the release of an engineering item revision with a 'Released' status. The status is changed from 'Released' to 'Not released'.

Releasing a revision generally means that a component can no longer be changed. If you have to change a component, you need to create a new revision. This would mean, however, that a minor change to a complex and fully released product must result in a revision of the component itself and of all of its parent components. This is often not desirable. Imagine having to create a new revision of a ship when a lamp in a cabin is replaced.

In the case of products consisting of several semi-finished articles, it would make more sense not to touch the components that remain unchanged as to form, fit and function. Therefore, undo the release of the revision of the component that needs to be revised, make the required change, and release the revision again. This way, you can make a change to a released product without having to revise the entire product.

Example

A piston ring in an engine is revised, but this does not affect the form, fit and function of the cylinder. All you need to do, is to cancel the release of the piston ring, change the item, and then release the item again.
