Lot numbers

Use this form to register lot numbers. For lot numbers, you can register information such as the supplier, a latest shelf life date, and a quality code. Like the use of certificates, the use of lot numbers is part of the Traceability functionality.

Using lot numbers, you can assign an identification to a group of parts. For example, you could assign the same lot number to all parts intended for a particular finished product. Or, you could assign the same lot number to parts that were included in the same delivery. The software automatically registers the origin and destination of parts. This information can be displayed in a variety of lists.

Lot numbers are often used for relatively expensive components that must be purchased on a regular basis and are very much prone to wear and tear. Lot numbers will allow you to check the origin and current location of the parts.

Lot numbers can be assigned to purchase parts when they are received. Using these lot numbers, the parts can then be tracked throughout the production process. Lot numbers can also be specified for parts that are not purchased (semi-finished and finished products).

Note: Certificates are external codes which a parts supplier has assigned to a parts lot or a single part. Lot numbers are internal codes which you assign to a parts lot.
