The purpose of the Isah License Server time-out function is to minimize the number of concurrent users. This is done by releasing the license of users whose computer has been idle for a specific period of time. A computer is considered idle when the system has not been used for this specific time. You can specify the time period in the Client timeout field on the Settings tab on the Options form of the Isah License Server Configuration panel.
The start of the time-out period is calculated as the time when a user carried out his last action in the system. It ends during the last contact with the Isah License Server, allowing for a two-minute margin.
If you want the license of a user whose computer has been idle during this time period to be released directly after the time-out period expires, you must select the Always check client time out check box. The Isah License Server will then verify every minute whether a license is available to be released.
If you only want to release a license when an additional license is requested by a user who tries to log on, you can clear the Always check client time out check box. The Isah License Server then only releases a license if the maximum number of concurrent users has been reached and the time-out period has expired. The Isah License Server will then check if there are any licenses available to be released. If so, the license whose time out has expired will be released, and the license will be re-assigned to the user requesting to log on. If no time-outs have expired, the users that want to log on will receive a message that the maximum number of licenses has been reached.
It is possible to use the time-out function but to exclude computers on which processes might run that should not be aborted. This could be a batch server or any other computer that possibly carries out automatic processes. You can use the Exclude button to enter these computers. The processes of these computers will be unaffected if the time-out period expires.
