If you are using Revision Management, you do not have to add a new part to your parts file whenever there is a new part revision. Instead, you register the new part version in the part settings by clicking the Revisions button.
Every part revision has a validity period and can be different from the other revisions in various respects. For example, revisions can have different calculations and different stocks.
A validity period can also be specified on the calculation line for a part, for example if after some time you want to replace a part line in the part calculation by another part line.
Revisions apply throughout the Isah software.
Note: The validity range of part calculation lines must match the validity range of part revisions. An exception to this is when you are not using multiple revisions for each part, but do take into account the validity of lines. This may be the case when you want to control changes to the part calculation.
You can also specify the validity start date of this revision when you run the Release part revision process from the Edit menu. If you have entered a date in the Start date field, and then enter a different date in the process, the value of the Start date field will be overwritten by the date you have specified when you released the revision.
The end date of a revision is linked to the start date of the next revision. This date is calculated as follows: End date of previous revision = Start date of next revision - 1 day.
This check box is selected automatically when the part revision has been moved to history.
Examples of part revisions
When entering a sales line, you can specify the revision you want to sell, after which the data of that revision will automatically be displayed on your screen.
If you want to copy a calculation, you can choose which revision of the part you want to copy.
You can manage your stocks by revision. You know the quantities available of a particular revision. When generating purchase requirements, revisions are taken into account.
Examples of revisions on part calculation lines
If you know that in a year's time, a particular part will have a revised calculation that must be recorded under a new revision number, you can register this new revision right now, without affecting the calculation. During the calculation, you decide which revision is displayed on your screen. Calculation lines that are not (or not yet) valid in the selected revision will therefore not be displayed, unless you choose to activate the revision.
Your calculations can easily be modified if a part line in the part calculation needs to be replaced by another line, even if the time of the replacement is in the future.
It is possible to retrieve a calculation of a revision from a few years ago, or a calculation that will come into effect on January 1st next year.
