The as-built structure is created automatically based on the actual costs of part transactions, or it is modified as a result of issues, deliveries, production receipts, purchase receipts, or receipts from customers. If, for instance, an engine block is installed in a car, the object 'Engine block' will be linked to the target object 'Car'.
A customer ordered a machine (an object) in the past, and now orders a spare part. In the target object, specify the machine the part is intended for. Upon delivery, the as-built structure of the object can be updated.
Enter a reference object as the target object. Various suppliers are submitting tenders for a building project. Multiple suppliers request an offer referring to the same project (the reference object). Eventually, the project is executed by just one supplier. The reference object is used as the delivery address in a later order stage, and is used at an even later stage as the location object containing the objects delivered.
Note: An object-linked part cannot be shipped until an object code has been assigned to it.
