Object types

If you are using the Objects module, the term 'objects' can have a variety of meanings. Objects could refer to serial numbers, machine codes and batch codes, but also to stock codes, locations, reference objects (buildings, locations or ships where a part you have produced is to be installed).

Object types are provided to allow you to assign company-specific terminology to service objects. The object type is used to define the kind of object.

Object types also enable you to differentiate between numbering methods for object types. For example, you could assign different numbering methods to different types of objects.

You can also assign an icon to an object type, as a graphical representation of the object type. Icons make it easier to recognize the type of objects displayed in lists and overviews.
