Transfer between stock and WIP locations

Run the Transfer between stock and WIP locations process to:

• Transfer a part's stock from one warehouse location to another warehouse location
• Move parts from one WIP location to another WIP location
• Change the stock status. You can even change the stock status without choosing another stock location or WIP location.

It is also possible to transfer stock from one location to another within the same warehouse.

Disadvantages of manual stock transfers

The Stock module allows you to manually transfer stock to another warehouse location. This action has one major disadvantage, however, as it results in financial entries. After all, if you decrease the stock at a warehouse location, the value of your stock will be reduced as well. If you later enter that same stock at a different warehouse location, the value will increase again. The journal entries created during this process are in fact unnecessary, because the stock was never actually reduced.

If you transfer items with the Transfer between stock and WIP locations process, you will also avoid possible data entry mistakes during the re-entry of the data, as during the transfer only the warehouse location of the stock will be changed; all other stock data will remain the same. This is also the reason why no financial entries are created when the process is run.

Checks

During the execution of the Transfer between stock and WIP locations process, the following checks are performed:

• The software checks whether stock has been registered for the part in question. If not, a message will appear. You will still be able to continue the entry, however. As the administrative stock may differ from the actual stock, the entry will not be blocked.
• The software will check whether there is sufficient stock available at the location from which you want to transfer the quantity. For example, if you want to transfer 1100 items from a location where only 1000 items are present, a message will be displayed indicating that only 1000 items are available. Also in this case you can continue the entry if you have indicated that a negative stock is allowed.
