In Shop Floor Control (SFC), employees can see the work items in the company schedule, they can start and stop operations, and execute a number of other functions. One possibility is to start an operation on a machine that does not need further supervision. The employee is then free to start another operation for themselves.
More and more machines are being equipped with software that makes it easy to program them to work on their own. However, you also want their operations to be started in SFC, so that the hours spent on a certain operation are registered properly. Ideally, the machine should have access to SFC, so no employee is needed to start and stop operations manually.
For this reason, Isah has created an API that allows machines access to the SFC service. Because there are many different types of machines, it is impossible to create a fully working program for all machines. However, the API provides a secure form of access that can be modified to fit all kinds of machine software.
