Display panel

The display panel shows details of the VAT return, such as the VAT return code, the period to which the return relates, the payment reference, and the amounts.

The VAT Return Status section shows when and by whom the VAT return was created using the Create VAT Return process. If someone else is completing the return for you, the return status also indicates how the work is progressing. For a manual return, the status indicates whether the return has been submitted. For electronic returns, there can be many more statuses. The status shows the stage the return is in, for example 'Received by Digipoort'.

Shows when and by whom the VAT return was sent using the Complete VAT return process. The return can be submitted manually or electronically. If it was submitted electronically, you will see its progress in the Status of electronic return field.

Statuses for manual VAT returns

If you choose to submit the return manually, the value of the Return Status field shows whether the return has already been submitted.

Return status	Description
Draft	No instruction has yet been given to submit the return.
Final	The status will be 'Final' once the submission has fully completed.

Statuses for electronic VAT returns

A return that has been submitted electronically passes through various stages before it is accepted by the Tax Authorities and you are deemed to have fulfilled your submission obligation. Once the return has been received by Digipoort, it will not be forwarded to the Tax Authorities until some checks have been performed, and the Tax Authorities themselves will also perform a number of checks. Statuses can indicate successful progress, or they can indicate errors. Digipoort and the Tax Authorities have provided a wide range of statuses, and Isah has summarized these statuses. The table below lists the Isah statuses, and in the case of error statuses, also the underlaying statuses assigned by Digipoort and the Tax Authorities.

The current status is displayed in the display panel. To see detailed information about the stage the return is in, check the status flow on the VAT return lines.

Return status	Description	Status assigned by Digipoort or Tax Authorities upon failure
Draft	The return has been created, but no instruction has been given to submit the return. You can still choose to change or delete the return, or to send it manually.
In queue	The return is ready to be submitted and in the queue. It is possible that there has already been an unsuccessful attempt to submit the return. The status will in that case be reverted from 'Send return' to 'In queue'. For a period of 24 hours, regular attempts will be made to submit the return to Digipoort. When the return has or regains the status of 'In queue', you can still change, delete or manually send the return. If the return has been deleted or if you have sent the return manually, any further attempts to submit it to Digipoort will be stopped.
Unexpected error	If a return has been in the send queue for 24 hours, or if Isah receives an unknown error message from Digipoort or the Tax Authorities, the return will be given the status of 'Unexpected error'.
Send return	The return is submitted to Digipoort from within Isah Finance. The message containing the return complies with the XBRL standard used for exchanging financial data via the Internet. If the connection to Digipoort fails, the return is placed back in the queue, and it is assigned the status of 'In queue'. Once the return has the status of 'Send return', it is no longer possible to change or delete the return or to submit it manually. Regular attempts will be made for a period of 24 hours to submit the queued return. When the return has or regains the status of 'In queue', you can still change, delete or manually send the return.
Received by Digipoort	Digipoort has sent a confirmation that the return has been received.
Validation by Digipoort was successful	After receipt, Digipoort performs various checks (validations). The PKI government certificate (PKIoverheid), for example, is used to determine the sender's authenticity. The message is also checked for compliance with the correct specifications. If the return has successfully passed all the checks, its status will be 'Validation by Digipoort was successful'. Note: If the message containing the return is regarded as unsafe, it will be rejected, but no status will be returned.
Validation by Digipoort has failed	Should any errors be found during these checks - for example when the message does not comply with the specifications because the VAT number used is unknown - the return status will be 'Validation by Digipoort has failed". In that case, solve the problem and try to send the return again.	210 Sender authentication has failed 230 Technical problem with Authorization Service Provider (AuSP) 311 Message validation has failed 321 Technical validation problem
Failed to send document to Tax Authorities	If submission to the Tax Authorities is unsuccessful, Digipoort will make regular new attempts to submit the return. After the maximum number of unsuccessful attempts has been reached, the status will be 'Failed to send document to Tax Authorities'. If that is the case, contact the Tax Authorities.	410 Submission to recipient was unsuccessful 420 Technical problem with recipient's delivery service 425 Maximum number of delivery attempts has been reached
Sending document to Tax Authorities	This is the status if Digipoort is trying to submit the return to the Tax Authorities. The return will continue to have this status if the connection has not been established and new attempts are being made to submit the return. After the maximum number of unsuccessful attempts has been reached, the status will be 'Failed to send document to Tax Authorities'. If that is the case, contact the Tax Authorities.	405 Submission to recipient in progress
Received by Tax Authorities	If all checks have been passed successfully, Digipoort will try to submit the return to the Tax Authorities. After a successful submission, the return will get the status of 'Received by Tax Authorities'.
Validation by Tax Authorities has failed	The Tax Authorities will then perform various checks (validations). If during the checks made by the Tax Authorities any errors are encountered, the return status will be 'Validation by Tax Authorities has failed'. In that case, contact the Tax Authorities, solve the problem, and try to submit the return again.	510 Validation by recipient was unsuccessful
Accepted by Tax Authorities	If the return has passed all the checks, it is assigned the final status of 'Accepted by Tax Authorities'. The Tax Authorities can now process your return, and you have fulfilled your submission obligation. Acceptance of the submission does not imply acceptance of the contents of your return: the correctness of the data must still be validated at this point. For example, a return submitted for a period of four weeks will not be processed any further if the Tax Authorities are expecting a return for a monthly period.
