The form lists all custom tabs created by the employees of your company. As an application administrator, you use this form to manage custom tabs to be used throughout the company. You can do the following:
Create custom tabs. The layout of the custom tab is configured on the tab itself.
Use the Common option to make tabs available throughout the company
Use the Program option to choose which users have rights to view, change or delete custom tabs
Click the Titles button to add translations of custom tab titles
This is the form to which the custom tab has been added. If the custom tab has already been added to the form, the form data are filled in automatically. If you are creating the custom tab from the Custom tabs form, select the form to which you want to add the tab. The layout of the custom tab is configured on the tab itself.
Enter a program in this field to give users rights to a common custom tab. You can enter an existing program or add a new program. A user must have at least View rights to be able to view a common custom tab. If a common tab is converted into a personal tab, the Program field will be cleared automatically, as these rights do not apply to personal custom tabs.
Examples
On the Calculation for parts form, create a custom tab 'General', include only the fields of the General tab and the Continued tab that are relevant to your business, and then add any custom fields. In the Program field, select '710001 Calculation for parts / General'. Users with rights to the General tab will automatically have the same rights to the custom tab.
Use the Customers form to create a custom tab 'Turnover information' and add custom fields. A limited number of users is allowed to view this tab, and some users are allowed to change the data on this tab. As no program with these specific rights exists, create the new program '10007 Customers / Turnover information', and then link the user groups and users with the appropriate rights to the program.
Use the Common field to choose the users to whom the custom tab will be available: only the employee who created the tab, or all users with rights to the custom tab (see the Program field). If a custom tab is designed for common use, select the Common check box.
Enter the employee responsible for maintaining the custom tab. Use the 'Tabs of person responsible' to see the tabs managed by an employee.
Note:On their personal tabs, users may only use fields from tabs to which they have the appropriate rights. If rights change, fields may appear on a personal custom tab that originate from a tab to which the user no longer has rights. This means that the user will no longer have access to the original tab, but will still be able to use its fields on his or her own custom tab. Run the Check rights to custom tabs process to identify and solve these issues.
You should be aware that the rights to custom tabs may differ from the rights to other tabs. Below is a list of the rights relating to common and personal tabs and custom fields.
Personal custom tabs
Personal custom tabs are visible only to the user who creates them. Users are only able to add fields to a personal custom tab if these fields originate from tabs to which they have View rights as a minimum. Fields of tabs to which they do not have rights are not displayed on the Field chooser subtab. Users have Edit rights to all fields on their personal custom tabs. This means that they may have View rights to fields on the original tab, but Edit rights to the corresponding fields on their personal custom tab.
If rights change, fields may appear on a personal custom tab that originate from a tab to which the user no longer has rights. This means that the user will no longer have access to the original tab, but will still be able to use its fields on his or her own custom tab. Run the Check rights to custom tabs process to identify and solve these issues.
Common custom tabs
The program code associated with the tab determines which users are able to use a common custom tab. If a common custom tab does not have a program code associated with it, then all of the company's users may view and change the fields on the common custom tab. An associated program code allows you to control which users (or user groups) have View or Edit rights to the tab. A user may have View rights to a field on the original tab, but Edit rights to the same field on the common custom tab, or vice versa (the user has more rights to the original tab than to the custom tab).
Common custom tab allow you to add fields from tabs to which users do not have rights. The program code associated with the tab again determines the rights users have to the common custom tab.
Custom fields
When you link a custom field to a group, you can control which users are allowed to add the custom field to a custom tab. Without a group link, all of the company's users may do so. The tab rights determine whether the users may view or change the custom field (see explanation of personal custom tabs and common custom tabs).
