Change object linkage

Use this process to change the object linkage of a part, or in other words, whether or not you want to use objects for a particular part. The object linkage of a part is shown in the Object-linked field on the Object tab of the Parts form. When a part is created, the default setting of this field is 'No'. Use the Change object linkage feature to change the field setting to 'Yes'.

You can choose from the following options:

  • No:

No objects can be created for this part.

  • Yes, create manually:

You need to manually create the objects relating to the part on the Objects form.

  • Yes, auto-create:

Objects are automatically created for the part. When you start the Create objects process, Isah will create an object for the relevant part. The software uses a script for this. This script enables you to apply your own numbering logic. The script to be used is registered in the General Settings module (Settings, Basic data, Object tab).

Note: This function is only available if modification is enabled.

Enabling object linkage

Object linkage cannot be set for all parts. Before you enable object linkage, a number of automatic checks are performed. The software will distinguish between new parts and parts added previously. For new parts, conditions 1 to 5 must be true; for existing parts, all of the conditions below must be true.

  1. The Unit fields of the part on the General, Purchase and Sales tabs are set to 'Quantity'.
  2. The sales unit and the purchase unit of the part are expressed in a value of '1'. A sales unit or purchase unit does not refer to more than one instance, because otherwise it would not be a unique reference.
  3. The part type on the General tab of the part is set to 'Purchase part' or 'Production part'.
  4. Backflushing object-linked parts is not permitted. Backflushing is an 'anonymous' transfer method that cannot be used for objects. The backflush check boxes can be found on the Logistics tab. These check boxes are not selected.
  5. The following fields contain an integer greater than 0:
  6. No stock is present. When the part is linked to an object, an object must have been assigned for each unique copy, and objects cannot be assigned retroactively. You will therefore have to delete the existing stock lines, and then re-enter the stock including objects.
  7. No part records are present in the following files:

If, for one of the above reasons, it is not possible to establish an object link for a part, a message will appear indicating the file containing the lines and the number of lines.

  8. The shipping schedules for the sales orders do not contain any shipping lines for the part for which the Quantity to ship field has a value that is not equal to -1, 0, or 1. Any sales lines that have been confirmed as complete do not prevent a part from being linked to an object. A message will appear if the shipping schedules contain any lines that prevent object-linkage.
  9. No shipping note lines for the part are present for which one of the following fields contains a value not equal to -1, 0 or 1:

Processed shipping notes on which the part occurs do not prevent object linkage.

If a part cannot be linked to an object because there are files containing lines with the relevant part, you need to process these lines before you can link the part to an object.

Disabling object linkage

On rare occasions, you may have to convert object-linked parts to non-object-linked parts. When you do, it will have the following consequences:
