Use the Warehouse locations form to subdivide the warehouses into locations. Locations may be used when receiving and issuing parts. You can specify whether the stock available at a particular location is to be included in the requirement calculation for the part. It is also possible to block the stock at a particular location, for example because it still needs to be inspected.
Tip: Select Go to and then Stock to view the registered stock by warehouse location.
You can use this informational field to print reports, such as for the issue of materials, in the order specified in this field.
Standard reports are usually printed by part order, warehouse/location, or order code. You can use the Picking order field to determine the order in which a warehouse, such as high-bay warehouse, is to be picked. For example, you could specify that the order picker should pick all floor locations first.
Two attributes can be assigned to a location that affect the way in which stock is processed: 'Available for order point method and MRP' and 'Blocked for issues and shipments'. These settings are available on the Stock statuses form and on the Warehouse locations form.
Available for order point method and MRP: This check box is selected by default, so the stock is marked as present and included in the requirement calculation (purchase requirement) using MRP or the order point method. If the check box is selected when the stock is blocked, the stock is prevented from being used on a purchase requirement. If you clear the check box, the stock will be ignored in the requirement calculation.
In principle, all stock should be taken into account, except for rejected stock that is beyond repair and stock that has been transferred to a floor stock location.
Blocked for issues and shipments: If you select this check box, the stock at this location will not be issued or shipped. This may be stock that still needs to be inspected, or it could be rejected stock.
In principle, no stock lines should be blocked, except for stock lines with a receipt or inspection status, or rejected stock.
On the Stock and WIP location forms (both available in the Stock module), the settings are copied as follows:
The Available for order point method and MRP check box is selected only if the corresponding check boxes on the Warehouse locations and Stock statuses forms have both been selected. Only then the stock or the WIP location will be taken into account in the MRP calculation, in the order point method, and during the creation of purchase requirements.
The Blocked for issues and shipments check box is selected if the corresponding field on the Stock statuses form and/or the Warehouse locations form is selected. This means that if at least one of those check boxes is selected, the stock or the WIP location can no longer be used for issuing or shipping items.
