Use this tab to configure how part revisions will be used within your company.
Fields
Note: Set your choice before you start working with part revisions, and do not change it afterwards. Changing it would have major implications for your accounting records. If you want to change the field setting anyway, please contact Isah first.
If you have rights to part revisions, you can choose to manage your part revisions formally or informally. To set your choice, select the Part revision management check box or leave it empty.
Part revision management check box left empty
If you leave the Part revision management check box empty, there will be no formal management of part revisions, but the following options are available for working with part revisions:
Part revisions are registered only to allow you to view them. If Isah is linked to a CAD or PDM system, you can copy the part revisions from the CAD or PDM system to Isah. The link will ensure that part revisions are automatically transferred to the Part revisions form.
To be able to track different calculations of a part, register the validity period of calculation lines. You can register the validity period in the Parts module on the Calculation/production tab, using the Parts, Operations, Equipment, External operations, and Surcharges buttons. All these calculation components have a Revision tab on which you can set the validity of the lines. A calculation line is valid when the reference date falls within the validity range of a line. By default, calculation lines have an unlimited period of validity (they are valid from January 1, 1900 to December 31, 9999).
Part revision management by reference date is often used to phase out a calculation component by entering a validity end date, and then adding a new part line that will be valid as of that date.
It is possible to register part revisions and use part calculations by reference date, which means that you can register part revisions yourself and manage the validity of your part calculation.
Consider the following when choosing to work without formal part revision management:
Part revision management check box selected
Select the Part revision management check box to use formal part revision management. For part revision management it is essential that released revisions remain intact, so they can be retrieved in their original state. This means you are not allowed to change any fields in released revisions that are relevant to the revision; dimensions are relevant to a revision, but the warehouse location, for instance, is not. The calculation of the last non-released revision can be changed, however. You can do so by:
The fields that are relevant to the revision are configured in the Fields triggering part line copy when changed window.
Consider the following when choosing to work with formal part revision management:
The validity behavior of the other calculation lines (operations, equipment, external operations, and surcharges) is the same as when working with part revisions if the Part revision management check box is empty.
Releasing a revision is a separate step.
Stock of part revisions is interchangeable
At some companies, part revisions are interchangeable. If you select the Stock of part revisions is interchangeable check box, you specify that all revisions of a part can be taken into account when counting the stock of that part. For example, if you are creating a shipping note or issuing a stock part to production, the stock of the selected revision will be used first. If it is not sufficient, the stock of the older revisions will be used (starting with the oldest revision). This means that if a requirement is identified and the system must check whether sufficient stock is present, the stock levels of all revisions are added up.
If you leave this check box empty, only the stock of the selected part revision will be used.
The setting is taken into account for the following features in Isah:
Note: The setting affects the stock of part revisions if you have the appropriate rights to revision management, even if you leave the Part revision management check box empty.
Example
The employees of the Engineering department want a new part revision to be created for every change to a part. At logistic departments, the revisions are interchangeable as long as the shape, size and function remain the same (Form-Fit-Function). Any changes to the shape, size or function will result in a new part being created instead of a new revision. If a stock part is required, it does not matter which revision is used, as the revisions are interchangeable. The planner selects the Stock of part revisions is interchangeable check box, so that all of the stock of a part will be used up.
Fields resulting in part line copy when changed
If the Part revision management check box is selected (meaning you use formal revision management), define the fields that are relevant to the revision. Click the Change button and select the Fields triggering part line copy when changed check box for all revision-linked fields. The fields you specify here can only be changed in a non-released part revision.
When you change a revision-linked field, a copy of the part line is created when you save the data. The end date of the original line will then become equal to the date of the previous revision. The copy will be assigned a new line code, will retain the same position, and will be valid from the start date of the last revision.
Example
The Part field is a revision-linked field. Part A has a released revision '000' and a non-released revision '001'. The part calculation has a line '10', position 10 with part B.
You select revision 001 and change the part into 'part C' (you are not allowed to change the calculation of revision 000). When you save the data, Isah creates a copy of the part line: line 20, position 10, part C.
Tip: You are recommended to select at least the following fields in the Fields triggering part line copy when changed window if you are using Part revision management: LineNr (line), PartCode (part), Qty (quantity), Length, Width, and Height.
If a company follows the Form, Fit, Function (FFF) principle, revisions are interchangeable and can be changed in the calculation of a released revision. In that case, RevisionNr (revision number) should not be selected as a revision-linked field.
