Engineering items are used to stage the synchronization of external BOMs with a part or production file. They allow you to decide who can synchronize what and when, and to define the rights required to do so. This way, you could, for example, segregate the duties of the engineer and the planner. A structure of engineering items does require additional administrative work, however, as every engineering item must be linked to a part. This means that a part must be present for every engineering item. This can be a dummy part, for example for cut-to-length materials. Different engineering items with different dimensions will then use the same part.
Engineering item revisions
The Engineering items form basically contains engineering item revisions. A new engineering item is automatically assigned a revision number, for example '000' (unless the software has been configured for manual assignment of revision numbers). All subsequent revisions of the engineering item are displayed on the same form.
Synchronize
The BOM of engineering items is the same as the BOM in the CAD or PDM application. If you copy the data from the CAD or PDM application to the engineering items, you can see the current state of affairs in Isah. You synchronize the engineering item with a part or a production file. The items copied and their destination depend on the settings in the Synchronize section of the Engineering items form.
You can already enter component data that will be copied to the part or the production file during synchronization.
Create engineering item revisions
Engineering items can be created in the following ways:

Engineering item revisions are created with the Create engineering item revision process.
